The 180 B&W photos on this website have only just recently been developed from their original glass plate negatives. They will obviously be of interest to descendants of the Bunge family who established and lived at Walden.
However I believe these photos will be of general interest to many others also, hence the website. The photos comprehensively depict a rural way of life on a wheat and sheep property in the Wimmera District of Victoria, as it was over a hundred years ago, which has long since gone.
There were no tractors then, and the primary means of transport was by horse and buggy. Much of the farm work involved hard physical labour under primitive conditions. As can be seen in a few of the photos the T-Model Ford motor car was just starting to make its appearance. People dressed very differently then.
Some of the photos have comments/captions, where I could be sure of their content. However many do not.
My hope for this website is for it to be improved by input/feedback from anyone who can add to the descriptions of the photos. I will update the website on an ongoing basis when this happens. (Appropriate proof/authentification must be provided though to support this information).
